Tillicum School Resources & Reference >> School Policies >> Title I Announcement Title I Announcement September 8, 2006
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Welcome to the 2006-2007 school year. We are looking forward to providing your child with a quality education. Our teachers have worked hard to prepare their classrooms and curriculum for the coming year.
As a Title I school, we must meet federal requirements that address teacher qualifications. Under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, we are required to advise you of your right to request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher. Information that you may request includes the following:
• Has the teacher met state qualifications and licensing requirements for the grade levels and subject area in which the teacher provides instruction;
• Has the teacher been awarded an emergency or conditional certificate through which state qualifications have been waived; and
• What is the teacher’s baccalaureate degree major? What is the teacher’s graduate certification or degree, and what is the field of discipline of the certification or degree?
Parents of each student in a Title I school are also entitled to know if their child is working with a paraprofessional that provides reading, writing, and/or mathematics support. Information that you may request includes the following:
• Is my child being provided services by a paraprofessional; and
• Has the paraprofessional met state qualifications and/or licensing requirements?
We are committed to providing all of our students with the academic knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to succeed in school and beyond. That commitment includes ensuring that all of our teachers and paraprofessionals are highly skilled. If you would like information regarding the professional qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher or paraprofessional, please contact me at 425-456-6700.
Sincerely,
Thomas C. Duenwald, Principal
