WASL Resources for Parents

WASL Resources for Parents

As we move into the WASL testing window, Washington State PTA has prepared some new resources for parents. While we may have many views on testing, we have as a mission getting to parents and families as many resources as possible. We have prepared some tips for parents and have worked jointly with other groups to create an online WASL parent resource center. We hope these resources will be helpful to you.

WASL Online Resource Center
Washington State PTA has partnered with the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), the Partnership for Learning (PFL), and the Association of Washington School Principals (AWSP) to create an online WASL resource center that is available for parents & students. Visit the WA state PTA web site resources page to find more WASL resources: http://www.wastatepta.org/resources/resources.htm.

The resource center provides students and their families with a source of information regarding the WASL and the graduation requirement taking effect with the Class of 2008. The new WASL Resource Center site will be regularly updated to answer frequently asked questions and to provide new information about WASL retakes, summer school and other extended learning opportunities, and alternatives to the test for students who need a different means to show they’ve mastered the state’s 10th-grade learning standards.

Key features of the site include:
• Schedule for this year's WASL assessments of score releases
• Straightforward answers about the development and scoring of the WASL
• Simple tips to help prepare students for the exam
• Link to a sample 10th grade WASL test
• Alternative assessment information
• Links to other information
