Emergency Preparedness

We had two Bellevue School District employees, Jene Ladke and Brian Harding attend our General PTA meeting in October. They had safety brochures for the audience and spoke about all the plans that the district has in place and those that they continue to work on.

The basic message, in the case of a disaster or severe weather conditions, is to know that your kids are probably best off at school. Staff is trained to respond to a multitude of situations, there are many supplies to sustain students and staff, the buildings are well maintained, there are evacuation plans (Phantom Lake Elementary), all city and state response teams have a plan for schools. Knowing this may allow parents a piece of mind that your child will be safe. You don’t want to risk injury to yourself by trying to get to school to check on your child. In many cases, it could take a while to reunite you with your child (there are safety checks in place to make sure kids get with the correct person) and they ask for PATIENCE during what can be a stressful and anxiety filled time.
