Bellevue School District Statewide Issues Presented by Dr. Mike Riley: 10-8-07 Dr. Mike Riley addressed the Tillicum PTA (and guests) on October 8th, addressing a couple of state-wide issues in which the Bellevue district is involved. This page presents a recap of points that were raised, and offers web links about how to find more information.
In a nutshell, without immediate spending reductions and additional reductions next school year, the district’s fund balance will be too low to be of help in the event of an unexpected drop in enrollment, revenue shortfall or emergency expenditure need. Historically, the School Board’s stated goal has been to maintain a fund balance equal to five percent of the district’s total budget -- so the district must make $4.8 million in reductions to bring the balance back up to that five percent level within the next two to three years.
